Summer Draws to a Close...
I’m afraid this is only about my third entry this summer. I’ve been so busy with work that I haven’t done anything in my free time that was worthy of a post here. When I wasn’t working, I was playing Warcraft. I expect that this will change when the school year starts (ironically, I seem to have more time when I’m at school than over the summer when I have a job). We’ll see how difficult my classes turn out.
My oceansphere image is becoming very popular online. Specifically, people are using it as a background image for a number of pages - and linking directly to it. This (a) isn’t very nice, and (b) costs me bandwidth, which could theoretically start costing me money before too long. Since my server doesn’t fully support .htaccess, I’ll have to make a perl script to feed the images. I’ve planned on doing this anyway, since the same perl script would be able to control more than just images; it could also control larger downloads, which would enable me to place large files on my server and not worry about exceeding my bandwidth - the script would take care of that for me. So that’s my plan for the future of this site.
The truly observant will already have noticed the two new images on my Images page, as promised.
I got a new computer the other day! It’s taken me this long to get to the point where I could make an entry saying so. I partitioned the hard drive so that Windows and Program Files are on one partition, and my own stuff is on another partition. That came in handy last night when I reinstalled Windows, trying to fix a problem I was having. Too bad it was nothing more than the worm going around that practically everyone using Windows XP or 2000 got in the last 48 hours.
The computer is great; my parents chipped in because they believe it will help out with school (and they may be right about that), but what’s really neat is that Warcraft, with all of the video settings set to “high,” runs more smoothly than I’ve ever seen it before. It’s incredible how much easier it is to play now. I’ve gained two levels on the ladder in a relatively short amount of time, and I don’t have to worry about the computer getting in my way, even during large battles - if I win or lose, it’s all my doing.
The work which I’ve done over the summer, if all goes well, will be online within a few weeks (I assume), and I’ll point it out then. In the meantime, I’ll be going back to school in only a little over one week now.
At which point, hopefully, I’ll have a lot more to say.
